Ahmed joins Jagger Jones as the team prepares to start the new season this week
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (February 27, 2023) – Cape Motorsports has completed its lineup for 2023, signing British-Pakistani driver Enaam Ahmed to join Jagger Jones on the team’s INDY NXT by Firestone squad.
"We are extremely excited to announce Enaam as part of our INDY NXT team for 2023,” said Dominic and Nicholas Cape. “Enaam draws from experience in many types of cars and brings that experience to the table for us.”
Ahmed, 23, moves to INDYCAR’s development series after finishing third in the 2022 USF Pro 2000 Championship (formerly known as Indy Pro 2000). He made his presence known in just his second INDY NXT series test, topping the speed charts at January’s full-field Firestone tire test on the road course at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The London resident contested a partial season in the series in 2021, his first foray in the U.S., capturing a podium in the season finale at Mid-Ohio. He went on to score five podiums last year and was the model of consistency, with 13 top-five finishes in 18 races.
Beginning his career in the British karting ranks, Ahmed won numerous national and international titles before moving to cars, capturing the MSA Formula Championship rookie of the year title in 2015. Finishing fifth in BRDC British F3 in 2016, he won the series title in 2017 with 13 wins and 18 total podiums. He contested FIA European F3 and Japanese F3 before turning his attention to the U.S. in 2021.
Ahmed relishes the opportunity to return to the U.S. and to join the team in its return to the series.
“I’m thrilled to join Cape Motorsports this season in INDY NXT,” said Ahmed. “We will be racing the best teams and drivers of my generation as we fight to get to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. I have really been impressed working with the Cape brothers and I love being an underdog driver with an underdog team. We are ready for war.”
Formerly the Indy Lights series, the newly rebranded INDY NXT by Firestone series will contest a 14-race season that features races on every type of U.S. racing circuit: two oval races (Iowa Speedway and WorldWide Technology Raceway), three street courses (St. Petersburg, Detroit, and Nashville), four natural terrain road courses (Barber Motorsports Park, Road America, Mid-Ohio, Portland and WRLS), and two races on separate weekends at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (the GMR Grand Prix and the Brickyard weekend alongside NASCAR).
